Artist's Comments
This is Katana. He likes to wear black leather and look cool. He's also not gay, unlike so many anime-styled bishounen these days. ^_~
I've drawn him before...but he's the main character in Jiro-Jiro Minai, so it's only natural that he should get lots of pencil time, right? Go check out the comic if you're so inclined. Might I stress though, that even though Katana himself is not gay, a good many of the people he associates with are. So if that sort of thing bothers you, don't click the link. Or do. Your choice. Just don't say I didn't warn you. w00t. **Rambling induced by Starbucks coffee and other sugary substances. Weirdness on the part of the artist is genetic. Materials were various markers, pens, pencils, a 4-day weekend, and sleep deprivation.** |

It would be truly surprising if sound were not capable of suggesting color, if colors could not give the idea of the melody, if sound and color were not adequate to express ideas.

Anyway, I love the little details like the design on his face, and his...bajoran earing. THe linky-chainy thing.
*hugs Katana's mohawk*
The character design actually is mine, and I do not label myself a member of the goth subculture...but I'm not insulted at all. I understand where you're coming from. Half the world has decided it's cool to be "goth" or "punk" or whatever, so everyone's jumping on the bandwagon, and you're correct: They're trying to be different by being the same as everyone else.
I have no idea if you're even going to read this next part, but I'll put it out anyway--
In defense of my character, I designed him before the "goth" look started going mainstream. He's a bounty hunter in the comic, so I initially designed him with more of a mercenary image in mind. Later on as his character developed, my co-authors and I started leaning toward a more bondage/s&m look (hence the chains and leather--for him, this is quite a modest outfit). Also, his girlfriend in the comic is a super-conservative little Roman Catholic girl, so his appearance became something that helped drive the plot rather than a nod to any particular subculture. Pity for us that his look became cool a few years later, and now (especially since the comic has only just started to get off the ground) Jiro-Jiro Minai looks like it's jumping right onto the bandwagon along with all the little teeny-boppers. Oh well, live and learn, I suppose.
Anyhow, thanks for your comments, however convoluted, and I hope you made it all the way through this reply...
